Looking for more ways to keep your budget in check? Here are 5 more ideas for eating healthy without breaking the bank.

  1. Eat first. Grocery shopping on an empty tummy or with hungry children can make it hard to stick to your list. If everyone is feeling full, you’ll be less likely to buy unplanned food purchases.
  2. Dig out day. Include a “dig out day” for menu planning and create a meal from what you have on hand. Try out new combinations—and use up what’s in cabinets, fridge and freezer.
  3. Make cents. Clip coupons regularly (or download them) for items you usually buy. But check prices at the store shelf. Sometimes another brand may be less expensive—even without a coupon.
  4. Do the math. Look at the price per ounce on tags on store shelves to be sure you’re getting a good deal. Take a calculator along to make it easier. Buying in bulk can be cheaper—but be sure the numbers work to save you money!
  5. Minimize. Limit shopping trips to just once per week. With gas prices so high, this is a simple way to save on time and gas. It can help you take advantage of fresh sale items too. Good deal!
